Management Team
Andy Schoonover, VRI's CEO, is responsible for the Company's Sales and Business Development activities, as well as building out the Company's capabilities in training and technology. Prior to working at VRI, Andy co-founded and was Managing Partner at Blue Canyon Capital, a private investment firm formed to make a long term investment in profitable small and middle market companies. Before Blue Canyon, Andy worked for Host Marriott Corporation (now Host Hotels & Resorts, NYSE: HST). At Host, Andy worked with the Treasury, Asset Management and Acquisition and Development groups and completed transactions valued at approximately $1.5 billion. Andy has also held positions with Florida Capital Partners and Blue Ridge Capital. Andy received his MBA from Stanford University and his BS from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, where he serves on the Schools Advisory Board.
Chris Hendriksen, President of VRI, is responsible for the Operational aspects of the business, with an additional focus on selling new products and services to the Company's current base of customers. Prior to working at VRI, Chris co-founded Blue Canyon Capital, a private investment firm formed to make a long term investment in profitable small and middle market companies. Chris also worked for Thayer Capital Partners, a private equity firm in Washington, DC with $1.5 billion of capital under management. At Thayer, Chris focused on making and managing private company investments in the logistics, aerospace/defense and electronics manufacturing industries. Prior to Thayer, Chris held positions with William Blair & Company and PROTRADE. Chris received his MBA from Stanford University and a BBA from the University of Notre Dame.
Rich Filler CPA, CMA, Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for the financial activities of the company. Rich joined VRI from the American Cancer Society, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Ohio Division. Prior to his position with the American Cancer Society, he held various management positions with AT&T, Thomson Financial Services and Dalcomp. Rich has a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University. He also serves on the Advisory Board for the Accounting Program at Franklin University, where he is an Adjunct Professor.
Brad Lawson, Vice President of Sales, is responsible for leading client and revenue growth at VRI through the company’s Sales and Marketing efforts. He has 15 years of experience in sales and sales leadership, most recently serving as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development at clinical telemedicine provider, Specialists on Call. Prior to Specialist on Call, Brad spent eight years with WebMD (NASDAQ: WBMD) within their Health Services division as Senior Vice President of Sales for their Employer and Health Coaching segments. WebMD HS delivers highly integrated health management solutions to Fortune 1000 employers and health plans utilizing online and telephonic resources. Mr. Lawson has a BBA in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from the University of Dayton.
Dr. Gregory D. Hobbs MD, MPH, FACEP, Chief Medical Officer, is responsible for all medical aspects of VRI. Dr. Hobbs is a practicing Board Certified Emergency Physician and has been a senior executive for over 18 years. He brings extensive experience in emergency medicine and trauma, telemedicine, medical and corporate management, physician adoption of technology, marketing, and medical/legal issues to VRI. Dr. Hobbs has extensive experience in Telemedicine, being the founder of the Central Texas TeleHealth Network in 1997. Prior to joining VRI, Dr. Hobbs served as Senior Vice President of Clinical Applications for Vidacare, a global medical device company, where he was responsible for worldwide management of the Vascular Access Business Unit. Prior to that Dr. Hobbs was Chief Medical Officer of ACS Healthcare Solutions, Inc., a $5 billion global healthcare consulting and outsourcing company, having founded and then directed their Clinical Transformation and Performance Improvement Practices. Dr. Hobbs also served for 12 years as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Scott & White Memorial Hospital, a level I trauma center and academic medical center, and Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Dr. Hobbs completed an emergency medicine residency at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, after obtaining his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He also has a Masters in Public Health from Texas A&M University School of Public Health.
Darren Torrence is Director and General Manager of VRI. Under his leadership, VRI transformed from its roots in home security systems into a national provider of medical alert systems. Under Darren's direction VRI became one of the first providers of medication adherence services in the country. Prior to working at VRI, Darren worked at NCR as a senior sales manager. While at NCR, he was awarded the Top Sales Person of the Year, and Rookie Sales Person of the Year honors. Darren graduated from Bowling Green State University.
